The Witches of Cleopatra Hill series continues. This time, from an outsider (civilian) point of view. Kate Campbell, seen in "Impractical Magic", shows up at her estranged husband's house to serve him divorce papers. She instead finds him brutally murdered with strange symbols written in his blood covering the walls.The Detective assigned to the case, De La Paz witch Jack Sandoval, immediately realized this was a ritual involving the darkest of black magic. He knows non-witch Kate could not be involved in this. Except as a further target of an evil warlock. No one in the department knows he is a witch, and it must remain that way.
Sandoval must protect Kate, fight his attraction to her, and find a mysterious killer. Without revealing the true nature of the crime to the world. Her brother is married to a MacAllister witch, so it is safe to talk to her.
At the same time, Kate is fighting an attraction to the man offering his protection. It seems inappropriate so soon after her ex is murdered.
Christine Pope gives life to her characters, even ones we meet casually. Starting with a seemingly senseless murder, the tale becomes a major crisis for the Arizona witch clans. The true nature of the plot is a surprise. Not revealed until near the end. The author handled it very well. You will want to read further books in this series.

Absolutely love this. There is so much sadness but beneath it all comes a love story. Can't wait to see what happens with the Escobar family and how the other families handle everything.

Great reading hard to put down. The characters are well developed and credible. Plots are very good as well. Start at the first one to get the whole picture.
Very good writing. I wasn't sure if I would like it, I struggle to move away from the authors I love.
Oh my gosh! This was awesome! Now I have to wait til October 2017 to read the next installment! Aaaargh! The pain...... You really need to get into this series. Love the connection between all the other books. A must read!
Good book, lots of long paragraph s,. Jack and Kate defently had a long road ahead of them with the murder of soon to be exhusband to Kate. The loss of life in the family chain of events had you wanting to finish the book fast. Can't wait to read the next book.
